StarShine Announces 2005 Readers’ Choice Nominees!
Staten Island, NY—July 11, 2005—StarShine
Magazine’s 4th annual Readers’ Choice Award nominations
have been released. This year’s candidates offer
a diverse taste of what the magazine has to offer ranging from
unsigned artists to best selling ones to fan favorites.
At the top of StarShine’s list is young JoJo with 7 nods,
breaking the previous record set by Nick Lachey with 6 nominations
by an artist in 2004. If JoJo will win all 7, that’s another
story. Holding strong with 6 nominations a piece are the renown
Backstreet Boys, StarShine veteran, Aaron Carter and newcomer,
Tyler Hilton. All three artists won’t make it easy for
JoJo. Though she won’t have to worry about “Favorite
Female Artist”, JoJo has the strongest chance of winning.
Not too far behind are artists not as well known outside the
StarShine community—Pollyanna Dorough and J. Roman. Pollyanna
is no stranger to winning awards in StarShine though. She’s
won “Unsigned Artist of the Year” 2 years in a row
and is trying to reclaim the honor once again this year. However,
her competition is steep, which includes J. Roman. Though J.
Roman recently signed a deal with Latium Entertainment, he still
qualifies for the award since he’s been unsigned for 2004
and some of 2005 as well.
Aaron Carter made an impressive appearance in the nominations
this year. His latest single, “Saturday Night” is
up for “Best Dance Song”, where he has a strong
hold against JoJo’s “Baby It’s You”
and big brother’s ex-girlfriend, Willa Ford. Aaron also
faces off against former opening act, Greg Raposo and breakout
artist, Tyler Hilton for “Favorite Male Artist”.
Carter won the award back in 2002. Only time will tell if he
can do it again.
Though predictions for Backstreet Boys to sweep the awards this
year have already been made, it’s going to be a tight
race with JoJo and Simple Plan giving the comeback boys a run
for their money. All three artists are up for “Song of
the Year” with Top 40 hit singles. However, Simple Plan
was shut out for “Album of the Year” as well as
“Artist of the Year”. Surprisingly their spot went
to Pollyanna Dorough, who released her debut album Wings of
Hope on her independent label, Polygrooves Entertainment.
Other nominees include Lava recording artists, Cherie and The
Click Five as well as StarShine advice columnist, Denise McLean,
last year’s big winner, Jessica Simpson and Radio Disney’s
famed, Stevie Brock.
